Dr. Lawrence A. Heiser has been a professional in the field of education since 1970. During that time he has taught in both public and private schools in upstate NY and Caracas, Venezuela. Initially, his classroom experiences were in primary education. He was the first bilingual SLD teacher in Palm Beach County School District. He also worked as a case manager with Child Find, a prekindergarten ESE early intervention program; and a crisis intervention teacher for Severely Emotionally Handicapped high school students. He was an assistant principal in three elementary schools and became an elementary school principal in 1997. He also trained assistant principals and principals in effective teacher observation techniques and remediation strategies. Dr. Heiser retired from Palm Beach County Schools in 2007.
Dr. Heiser earned his PhD. in Educational Leadership from the Lynn University and has taught both undergraduate and graduate students earning initial degrees (certification) in special education. Dr. Heiser is the Field Placement Coordinator of the ESE Department. He oversees student placement for Practicum 1, Practicum 2 and Student Teaching; and collaborates with school district personnel in Palm Beach, Broward, Martin, and Miami-Dade counties to facilitate field experiences. Dr. Heiser is a lecturer of special education at Florida Atlantic University and also teaches courses in classroom management to general education students
