The School Counseling specialization meets all certification requirements of the Florida Department of Education, and meets or exceeds all national standards relative to the school counseling field. The Mental Health Counseling specialization track meets all the academic requirements leading to licensure as a Mental Health Counselor by the Florida Department of Health. The Rehabilitation Counseling specialization meets all academic requirements leading to national certification as a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC), and other national rehabilitation certifications.

A dual specialization is possible in rehabilitation counseling and mental health counseling, which in addition to CRC preparation fulfills the academic requirement leading to licensure in Florida as a Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) The College of Education is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and Florida Atlantic University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).

The faculty of the Department of Counselor Education has earned Council for Accreditation in Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) certification until October 2013 in the School and Mental Health counseling programs.  The Rehabilitation Counseling program has earned  certification through the Council on Rehabilitation Education (CORE) until the Summer 2009.
