Ed.S. Admission
Requirements
Students enroll in the Ed.S degree program
primarily pursue one of two career goals:
1.
To develop greater expertise and leadership
skills in one's current position.
The program provides advance course work
that will enhance professional competence in
one's present position whether it be in
school counseling, mental health counseling
or rehabilitation counseling. In addition,
the advanced work in counselor supervision
and training, as well as , research skills
in the counseling field will help prepare
students to assume supervisory and
leadership positions in their place of
employment.
2. To seek credentialing in another
counseling specialty area. Counselors
may wish to seek an additional professional
credential in a different specialization in
order to broaden and expand their career
options. Ed.S degree students may design
their program of studies to fulfill
licensure or certification requirements in
areas such as
Mental Health Counseling (LMHC)
Marriage and Family Therapy (LMFT)
School Counseling (FDOE K-12)
Programs are individually designed to meet
the particular needs of each student based
upon their transcripts, experience and
certification/license goals. The Ed.S.
degree requires a minimum of 33 credits in
an approved program. With permission,
students may transfer into their Ed.S.
program, 6-9 credit hours from an approved
master's degree program. These 6-9 credits
may be added to the minimum 24 credits above
the master's degree. This will equal a total
of at least 72 graduate credits above the
bachelor's degree.

Up to 9
graduate credits may be transferred from a previous master's degree (in
counseling or closely related field) from FAU.

Up to 6
graduate credits may be transferred from a previous master's degree (in
counseling or closely related field) from another university.
