FAU Hosts Free Hearing Screenings for Tinnitus Awareness
BOCA RATON, FL (March 30, 2009) – Florida Atlantic University’s National Student Speech-Language-Hearing Association will be commemorating National Tinnitus Awareness on Tuesday, April 14, 2009 from 9 a.m. to noon with free hearing screenings and tinnitus advice. The screenings will take place on the fourth floor of FAU’s College of Education building, Communication Disorders Clinic, 777 Glades Road, Boca Raton campus. No appointments are necessary.
It is estimated that 50 million people suffer from tinnitus, and two million people see their doctor every year for tinnitus, or continuous ringing or noise in the ears. Many people with tinnitus do not understand that the condition is manageable and few are offered treatment options. Because of this fact, Dr. Ali Danesh is opening up his clinic to tinnitus sufferers as a way to offer treatment options.
Danesh, the director of audiology at the FAU Speech and Hearing Clinic, has not only been conducting tinnitus research, but he has been lending support to tinnitus sufferers for more than a decade. He also is a help network volunteer for the American Tinnitus Association (www.ata.org).
Parking is available in the lots just outside of the College of Education. For more information, call the Communication Disorders Clinic at 561-297-2258, e-mail tinnitus@fau.edu or visit www.coe.fau.edu/csd/tinnitus.htm .

Previous Years:
FAU’s
Communication Disorders Clinic is sponsoring an event to increase
public awareness with regard to tinnitus. Tinnitus is defined as a
sensation of hearing sounds, with no external origin, inside the
ears or in the head. The American Tinnitus Association (ATA)
believes that awareness is the key and people with tinnitus need to
know about treatment options. And everyone needs to be aware of how
to avoid exposure to loud noises that may exacerbate or cause
tinnitus. Participants will receive a free hearing screening and
information about tinnitus, and will have opportunity to familiarize
themselves with research on tinnitus at FAU. This free public
service will be offered on Wednesday May 14, 2003 from 9:00 A.M. to
1:00 P.M. in room 455 College of Education, Boca Raton Campus. No
appointments necessary. Parking is available during the event. For
more information please send an email to tinnitus@fau.edu or call
