Undergraduate FAQ

Q. What does the ESHP program prepare me to do?
A. The ESHP program is designed to prepare its graduates for leadership positions in the expanding health/fitness industry.

Q. Will I be certified when I graduate?
A. At the present time there is no industry wide health/fitness certification system. The American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) comes closest with its Health/Fitness Instructor (HFI) Certification Exam or the National Strength and Conditioning Association-Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist exam, or the Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) exam. Our program is geared to assist you to pass these exams.

Q. Will the ESHP program prepare me for graduate study?
A. Yes, the ESHP program has as one of its basic purposes the preparation of students for further study in the ESHP field.

Q. Will I be given credit for prior course work?
A. Yes, equivalent course work at other recognized institutions, could result in course waiver.

Q. How long does the ESHP program take to complete?
A. On a full-time basis, the ESHP program will take four (4) semesters and a summer to complete.

Q. What about prerequisites?
A. Many of the clinical and science-based courses have prerequisites.

Q. Is there a specific grade that is needed for the required coursework?
A. Yes. A "C" or better is required for all of the classes listed below.



Pre-Professional Requirements:

Anatomy/Physiology I & II + Labs BSC 1085 & 1086 + Labs 8 credits
College Algebra MAC 1104 3 credits
Elements of Data Process or Info Systems Fundamentals CGS 2000 or ISM 2000 (must complete lab too) 3 credits
First Aid & CPR HSC 3406 or equivalent 2-3 credits
General Chemistry + Lab CHM 1045+Lab or CHM 1040/L & CHM 1041/L 4 credits
General Psychology PSY 1012 3 credits
Health and Fitness for Life HSC 2100 2 credits
Intro to Statistics STA 2023 3 credits
