Dr. Robert Shockley

Dr. Robert Shockley earned his Ph. D. from Pennsylvania State University. He has over 40 years of administrative experience at the public school, state education agency and higher education levels. He currently serves as the Chair of the Department of Educational Leadership and Research Methodology at Florida Atlantic University (FAU). Dr. Shockley has been instrumental in leading local and statewide reform efforts in teacher education, as well as national reform efforts in middle school education. Dr. Shockley has served as president of two national professional organizations and two state organizations. Most recently he served as the founding executive director of the Florida Association of Colleges of Teacher Education (FACTE) where he provided leadership to 44 colleges and universities in the State of Florida in the advocacy and support of teacher education policy. In this role, Bob was instrumental in the formulating of state policy initiatives on topics related to alternative certification, technology in teacher education, accountability in teacher education and professional development schools. He has also been a consultant and visiting scholar to schools, universities and education groups nationally and internationally. He has served as an external reviewer to the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) and The Middle States Association (MSA) for overseas accreditation visits in Central America, South America, Asia, Europe and Africa (including the Middle East). He also served as a founding member of the MSA Overseas Schools Advisory Council. Dr. Shockley’s current research interest relates to educational policy, teacher satisfaction and teacher retention. He is the primary investigator for a series of studies on teacher motivation and satisfaction. Additionally, he serves as the Co-Principal Investigator on a $5.6 million Wallace Foundation grant to partner with local area schools to reform practices in the preparation of school leaders.
