Q: What is the Pathways to Teaching (PTT) Program?
A: PTT is a Transition to Teaching federal grant program that provides the courses necessary for individuals who hold degrees in fields other than education to become professionally certified teachers.

Q: Who is eligible for PTT?
A: To be considered eligible for PTT, a candidate must have a Statement of Eligibility letter that states he or she is eligible for a three-year non-renewable Florida teaching certificate. To apply for a Statement of Eligibility, visit http://www.fldoe.org/edcert. A candidate must also provide passing scores from the FTCE General Knowledge Exam and Subject Area Exam, a passing score on the Professional Exam is not necessary. To register for any of the Florida Teacher Certification Exams, please visit http://www.fl.nesinc.com.

Q: How much does the Pathways to Teaching Program cost?
A:PTT covers the cost of tuition and books. Students are responsible to pay for their OWL card ($10) and transportation access fee (parking decal) each semester they take classes. Fees are $60 per semester.

Q: How long does the program take to complete?
A: The program usually takes one year to complete all five courses and one semester of student teaching.

Q: When and where are the courses offered?
A: Courses are given one at a time and are scheduled on Saturdays for 5-6 weeks from 9:00am to 5:00pm. Courses are given on the Boca Raton and Davie campuses. Please refer to the course schedule for dates, times, and locations.

Q: Do I need to be hired by Broward, Palm Beach , or Okeechobee School Board?
A: Unlike other Transition to Teaching Programs, you do not need to currently be employed. Preference will be given to current school teachers.

Q: What subjects does PTT accept?
A:We accept candidates in the areas of Elementary K-6, Foreign Language K-12, Art K-12, and middle and secondary math, science, social science, and English.

Q: What is my obligation to the program?
A:Candidates accepted into the Pathways to Teaching program are required to teach in a public school for 3 years in Palm Beach, Broward, and Okeechobee counties. Candidates that do not fulfill this obligation will be required to reimburse the Pathways to Teaching program for tuition and books received.
