General Scholarships  

College of Education Advisory Board Scholarship Fund

The College of Education Advisory Board Scholarship will be awarded annually to a student in the College of Education. The recipient must be degree seeking in the College of Education, with a minimum GPA of 2.5 or higher. Applicants must submit a one page letter on why this scholarship is important to them and what they would like to accomplish with the degree they are seeking.

Dr. Anthony J. Amato Scholarship for Future Educators

This scholarship honors Dr. Anthony J. Amato, who was a beloved professor at Temple University, Pennsylvania State University, and the University of Hawaii. His academic area of expertise was early education, especially research related to creative ways to get young students interested in the lifelong pursuit of reading. The scholarship will be awarded to undergraduate or graduate students in good academic standing who are majoring in education, with a preference for reading education. Applicants must demonstrate financial need, and preference will be given to students who are first-generation in college, or those who are socioeconomically disadvantaged, and/or those who have overcome substantial educational or economic obstacles.

Dr. Dorothy S. Laird & E.G. Carel Endowed Scholarship Fund

Students programmed in Elementary, Exceptional Student, and Secondary education, programs. Undergraduate students must have a 2.8 GPA and Graduate students must have a 3.0 GPA. Three letters of recommendation, one of which must be from the head of a recognized Catholic, Protestant or Jewish organization.

Dr. Gay S. Voss Scholarship

Dr. Gay S. Voss Scholarship is available to help individuals earn a college degree, an advanced degree and/or teacher certification through coursework taken in our College of Education.

Eligibility:

  • Deserving current and former faculty and staff of the Rolling Green Elementary School, as well as former students;

  • Faculty and staff at Crosspointe Elementary School;

  • Faculty and staff at the Addison Mizner School.


Dr. Hoang Tran Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship honors Dr. Hoang Vu Tran, Assistant Professor in FAU College of Education.

Graduate and undergraduate COE students with a commitment to teaching and working with students through examining issues of racial inequality, educational access, and fulfilling the Civil Rights promise of education. Minimum requirements include:

  • 3.0 or higher GPA;

  • One-page essay describing commitment to academic excellence in global/multicultural education, policy studies, educational equity, and/or social justice pedagogy in Pre-K- 12 education;

  • Two letters of recommendation which address the applicant’s commitment to educational equity and justice-oriented pedagogy.

Preference will be given to first generation college students.

Henry and Albertha McKoy Endowed Scholarship

Undergraduate and graduate teacher education students. Preference will be given to Jamaican or other West Indian immigrant students or children of Jamaican or other West Indian parents. Scholarship awards will be made on the basis of academic performance and demonstrated financial need*.

James Woodruff Jr. Scholarship

Undergraduate and Graduate students programmed in the College of Education. * Based on financial need.

Lenny & Judy Pippin Alumni Endowed Scholarship

Established by alumnus Lenny Pippin ’70 and his wife, Judy Pippin, the scholarship is awarded to students who are seeking a degree in education who demonstrate good academic standing and financial need.

Mary R. Leiper Scholarship Fund

Undergraduate and Graduate students a pursuing degree from the College of Education with a preference to African American students.

Mildred Kytlica Scholarship Fund

Provides financial support to individuals who are pursuing a degree in the College of Education with preference to female education majors. Recipients must be admitted and matriculated to the College of Education in good standing with a minimum GPA of 3.0.

Richard & Shirley Pendell Presbyterian Scholarship

Undergraduate and Graduate students from Martin, St. Lucie, and Palm Beach counties who wish to pursue a teaching degree. Submit proof of residency in Martin, St. Lucie or Palm Beach county. Preference is given, but is not limited to Presbyterian students.

Shamrock Society Endowed Teacher Scholarship

Scholarship for undergraduate students enrolled full-time at Florida Atlantic University College of Education. Students must demonstrate financial need and must be planning to become teachers.

The Nora Elizabeth Temple Family Scholarship Endowment

Undergraduate and Graduate students programmed in the College of Education.

The University Club Endowed Education Scholarship Fund

The purpose of this fund is to provide scholarship support to deserving students of the College of Education. Recipient shall be an upper division student in the College of Education pursuing teacher certification. Documentation of financial need is required.

Toppel Family Early Childhood Doctoral Scholarship Endowment

Available to Ph.D. or Ed.D. Students

The Departments of Curriculum, Culture and Educational Inquiry and/or Exceptional Student Education designate this scholarship to be a one-year award to a doctoral student whose research interests best meet a commitment to early childhood education. In addition, the recipient needs to demonstrate evidence of high academic achievement, and a propensity for successful completion of the doctoral program. Applicants must provide a College of Education scholarship application, a resume, two letters of recommendation (from FAU faculty and/or professionals in the field) and a 750-word essay describing their experiences and future goals in early childhood research and scholarship.

For this scholarship, applications are collected in summer for awards which begin in the fall term.

Toppel Family Foundation Endowed Scholars

The Toppel Family generously donated funds to support the Genesis Project. When the Genesis Project ended, funds were redirected to support Undergraduate students in the College of Education. * Based on financial need.

W. Dorne & J. Latham Kiwanis Education Scholarship

Undergraduate students who are Boca Raton residents, graduated from a Boca area high school and has been programmed into a teacher training program. Students must agree to maintain a full-time or approved academic schedule. Must submit proof of Boca Raton residency and graduation from a Boca area high school. Please provide a copy of a driver's license or state ID as well as a photo of your high school diploma. Additional forms of documentation are also accepted.

Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders  

Adam Susser Scholarship Award – Communication Sciences and Disorders

Graduate students enrolled in Speech and Language Pathology/Audiology who are involved in research and scholarly activities at FAU during their culminating experiences in the master’s degree. Applicants must demonstrate high academic achievement and a commitment to ethics and professional behavior during all activities related to the completion of the degree. A written recommendation from at least one faculty member is required. Department of Counselor Education  

Katherine Dexter Treadwell Memorial Scholarship in Counselor Education

Available to COED Master's track students

Graduate students in the College of Education pursuing a master's degree in Counselor Education. Applicants must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0. Preference will be given to female students. Student must have demonstrated financial need verified through the Student Financial Aid Office.

Department of Educational Leadership and Research Methodology  

Donald G. MacKenzie Scholarship

This scholarship was established in honor of retired faculty member, Dr. Donald G, MacKenzie. The scholarship will be awarded to students in good standing within the Department of Educational Leadership preparing to assume leadership positions in schools.

Ernest O. Melby Fellowship Endowment

Graduate students on the Adult & Community Education Leaders track. The criteria for the fellowship include:

  • evidence of field experience in community education;

  • evidence of knowledge of the history & philosophical tenets of community education;

  • evidence of a commitment to pursue a career in community education;

  • evidence of community leadership service;

  • may not hold outside employment during fellowship year.

Harry Harmes Memorial Scholarship

Doctoral student in Educational Leadership.

James D. Logsdon Memorial Scholarship

This fund provides scholarships to graduate students within the College of Education in Educational Leadership for dissertations, which are awarded based on academics and financial need. Applicant must have evidence of an approved dissertation topic, as reflected in their having on file with the department a fully signed Form 8.

Traica Vangeloff Thomas Endowed Scholarship

Graduate students who are enrolled full-time or part-time who are dedicated to community education
Department of Special Education  

Adam Susser Scholarship Award - Special Education

Graduate or undergraduate Special Education students participating in activities of distinction – either in research or in a field experience in which students apply evidence based practices in special education. Applicants must be fully enrolled, and must be involved in aspects of professional development in addition to their degree requirements. The selectee will demonstrate high academic achievement and a commitment to ethics and professional behavior during all activities related to the completion of the degree. A written recommendation from at least one faculty member is required.

John E. Miklos Exceptional Scholarship Endowment

Undergraduate and Graduate students in the area of Special Education or developmental disabilities.

Julie Jackson Scholarship Endowment Fund

Doctoral students who are interested in pursuing a degree with a focus on residential services for individuals with developmental disabilities. Must submit evidence focus on residential services.
Department of Curriculum and Instruction  

Fields Endowed Scholarship

Undergraduate and Graduate students admitted into the College of Education. Preference is given to secondary education students.

Marilyn Floyd Federico Memorial Scholarship Endowment

This scholarship was created to support undergraduate students in the Department of Teaching and Learning, majoring in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) teacher education programs. The recipient of this scholarship must be a full time student of at least junior status majoring in a STEM teacher education program who is in good standing with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Applicants must submit two letters of recommendation from professors, and a Professional Goals statement (500 words) detailing his/her brief philosophy of teaching and how the scholarship will help meet those goals.

Norma Gram Memorial Scholarship Endowment

This scholarship was established in November 1981 by Mrs. Ruby Anderson in memory of her daughter, Norma. Ms. Gram was a 1977 alumna of Florida Atlantic University. This scholarship is awarded to secondary students to assist them during the student teaching semester. Preference is given to non-traditional students.

Stephen H. Voss Scholarship Fund

Undergraduate Elementary Education majors. * Based on financial need.

ZONTA of Greater Deerfield Scholarship

Awarded to Early Care and Education majors

The Zonta Club of Deerfield Beach Scholarship will be awarded to full or part-time degree-seeking undergraduates majoring in the Early Care and Education program in the College of Education. Priority will be given to "Non-traditional" students demonstrating financial need, who are residents of Broward County. Recipients must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 or higher.
