The undergraduate and graduate reading programs at
Florida Atlantic University are intended to prepare and support educators in public and
private educational institutions. The focus of our programs is to ensure that our graduates
become leaders with expertise in a range of issues pertaining to language and literacy
throughout life, from birth through adulthood. Graduates of our reading programs will
become ethical, informed, and capable decision-makers who investigate diverse cultural,
social, and economic contexts as they gain knowledge about literacy and language learning.
Courses in the reading program emerge from a sequence of ideas based on research and move
through various processes of inquiries. Consequently, our graduates view literacy as a
unique discipline with a grounded research base, as well as a field that relates and
integrates with other content curricula. Graduates will demonstrate leadership and contribute
to policy decisions within the school community, district, state and beyond.

A book is a garden, an orchard, a storehouse, a party, a company by the way, a counselor, a multitude of counselors.
