To better meet the needs of the sixth largest school district in the country and deliver a high quality leadership program, Florida Atlantic University’s (FAU) Department of Educational Leadership (EDL) has developed a pilot internship program in collaboration with Broward County Public School's Human Resource Development Department and the Teaching and Leadership Center (TLC) at FAU.
This Internship Pilot initiative, developed jointly by FAU faculty and high-performing Broward school-based administrators, has been designed to meet both the needs of the Broward School District and the research-based requirements of a quality school leaders internship program.
This initiative will improve the quality of preparation for Broward leaders, and enhance the growing partnership between Broward County Public Schools and FAU. It will provide twenty aspiring Broward leaders with a 450-hour practical, hands-on internship at the school site with an experienced Principal or Assistant Principal mentor. The program streamlines Department of Educational Leadership coursework and the District’s leadership development program. This initiative will serve to further strengthen ties with the Broward School District, and will inspire other collaborative initiatives through the Teaching and Leadership Center.
Participants have been chosen for the Internship Pilot that begins August 2007.
