Broward Teacher Fellowship

It is worthwhile that teacher recruitment begins before college. High school teaching academies are the most highly structured of the pre-collegiate teacher recruitment programs, offering students the most intensive teaching exploration experiences that facilitate entry into the teaching profession. Thoughtfully designed and implemented teacher academy programs not only serve as the first step in creating improved career corridors into teaching, but they can be catalysts for higher levels of student achievement, more meaningful teacher professional development, and increased service learning opportunities.

Teacher academies show a great deal of promise in expanding the pool of talented, and often underrepresented, individuals entering teaching.

In response to the need for teachers, The School Board of Broward County, Florida, in cooperation with Florida Atlantic University, Nova Southeastern University, Broward Community College, and Barry University, has implemented Urban Teacher Academy programs with support from the Council of the Great City Schools and Recruiting New Teacher, Inc.
