TLC's Project PROMISE delivers efficient, supportive and meaningful services through a comprehensive Pre-Induction System that leads our candidates to an effective teaching career in Broward County. The pre-induction component is specifically designed for prospective teachers to Broward County Public Schools who are career changers or recent college graduates possessing a bachelor’s degree or higher in a field other than education.

The pre-induction services are comprised of the following three components:

1. Field Experience.
2. Professional Development.
3. Certification Advising and Placement Strategies.

Participants not hired, as a full-time teacher of record in a Broward County public school, will engage in a 90-hour field experience in a high-need school that includes:

• Face-to-face mentoring provided by a high performing teacher.
• Observation of teaching strategies within the participants certification areas
• Participation in promising practices to meet students' educational needs and improve student achievement.
• Interaction with students in a classroom setting.
• Collaboration with professionals through Learning Communities.
• Network with current practitioners.

Participants will engage in the professional development offerings of Effective Teaching Strategies in the Content Area and Teacher Leadership. Professional development is offered on weekday evenings to accommodate working adult. These courses allow the participant to:

• Gain effective teaching and learning strategies through collaborative, innovative, concrete solutions.
• Apply technological tools available through B.E.E.P (Broward's Enterprising Educational Portal) and engage in Human Resource Development’s Podcasts.
• Observe high performing teachers through demonstration classrooms.
• Receive preparation for the Subject Area Exam and General Knowledge Test.

In addition to traditional face-to-face advising on alternative certification and career planning, TLC offers virtual office hours for improved customer service. In addition, the following seminars are available to help participants secure a teaching position:

• Résumé writing strategies.
• Techniques and etiquette for optimal interviewing performance.
