Induction Services: For those Hired as a Teacher of Record
Mentoring
  • District’s New Educator Support System (NESS) on-site mentor
  • TLC online mentor database for additional assistance and resources
  • Learning Communities through cohort participation
Professional Development Offerings through the District and TLC
  • Teaching in the critical content area
  • Classroom management seminars monthly through varied delivery methods
  • District’s New Teacher Academy (NTA)
Certification Options through FAU with graduate courses in reading offered through NSU
  • Fifteen semester hours of non-traditional course-by-course undergraduate and graduate college credit through FAU in the following professional education areas:
    • Classroom management including safe learning environments
    • Human development and learning
    • Educational assessment to include the content measured by state achievement tests and the interpretation of data to improve student achievement
    • Effective instructional strategies including the needs of diverse learners
    • Curriculum and special methods of teaching in the content area
    • Foundations of research-based practices in teaching reading
  • Graduate level courses offered by NSU in researched based practices in teaching reading through the District’s Virtual University
Delivery of Services
  • Face-to-face, online, blended/Saturdays and/or weekday evenings through Florida Atlantic University’s Fast Track
  • NSU online through District’s Broward Virtual University
TLC Advisement Services
  • Zone visits with District Certification Department to advise teachers of certification requirements
  • Orientation meetings for new teachers needing alternative certification
  • Individualized and personal certification advising by trained TLC staff
