The Teaching and Leadership Center’s Transition to Teaching programs, STAR and Project PROMISE, are funded by grants from the United States Department of Education. The central goal of these programs is to expand the pool of mid-career professionals and recent college graduates who become highly qualified to teach and remain in Broward’s high need schools. These projects focus on streamlining the district’s hiring, placement, tracking, and new staff support systems for alternative certification candidates by creating an Alternative Certification Center: a Streamlined One-Stop (SOS) point of access for all non-education graduates interested in seeking information on becoming a teacher, training opportunities, and alternative certification options.
